Aktionsart Launches Amazon's First New Media Art Gallery

ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF THE FIRST NEW MEDIA, VIDEO AND DIGITAL ART GALLERY ON AMAZON ART

Aktionsart is proud to announce the launch of the first gallery selling new media, video and digital art on Amazon Art.

The gallery furthers Aktionsart’s vision of providing support and opportunities for artists to develop leading-edge, experimental models of media art production and distribution.

The first project Aktionsart is distributing on Amazon Art is General Intellect, by James Coupe, coinciding with the conclusion of the exhibition curated by Julia Fryett (Founder, Aktionsart) in a decaying school building in South Lake Union. General Intellect features a generative database of 3,000 videos produced by workers hired through Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (mTurk) service. The work is sold as unique database queries that art collectors may acquire and exhibit on a single-channel touchscreen computer or a three-channel wall projection. Buyers receive a package that includes their unique query, a set of videos, custom display hardware and software, and annual subscription service that delivers new videos each week. More Info

Aktionsart plans to expand the gallery, encouraging artists to use this virtual space as a site-specific venue for interventions and testing entrepreneurial ideas that connect art with new audiences.
